Site Updates

Website Updates and a New Way of Working Some of you may have already noticed a few changes around the site recently. The most obvious one is the updated pagination system on both the message boards and individual message threads. If you haven?t seen it yet, take a look at the General Board or open one of the larger message threads. Navigation should be a lot easier now, especially in discussions with many pages of posts. These changes are really just the beginning. Over the last few weeks I?ve been putting together a new workflow that allows me to make changes to the website much faster than before. In fact, I can now make updates from just about anywhere. If I have my phone with me, I can review code changes, synchronize files, and test updates without needing to be sitting at my desk. The process works by maintaining a local development copy of the website on my computer. I can work with ChatGPT to make changes to that copy, then synchronize those files to a test version of the site where I can review everything before it ever reaches the live version. What this means for all of us is that I can finally spend less time fighting the mechanics of updating the site and more time actually improving it. My hope is to use this opportunity to tackle some long-standing bugs, improve performance where possible, clean up areas that have been neglected for years, and add some quality-of-life improvements that simply weren?t practical before. There are still plenty of challenges ahead, and not every idea will make it into the site, but this new workflow opens the door to changes that would have been difficult or time-consuming in the past. So if you notice things changing around here over the coming weeks and months, don?t be surprised. Some updates will be small and barely noticeable. Others may be much more significant. Either way, the goal is the same: make the site easier to use, easier to maintain, and more enjoyable for everyone. As always, if you run into bugs or have suggestions, let me know. Now is probably the best time in years to bring them up. |
